Matchwits: think you're so smart?

In its 30th season, and it's second season as a statewide competition, the televised high school quiz game "Matchwits" is a marvel of mental capacity and reflexes.  Produced at Pueblo's Rocky Mountain PBS affiliate KTSC, Scott Jones guides the tournament to its exhilarating climax. 

"These kids are very quick," said Jones.  "They only have three seconds to answer the questions."  Fifty schools started the competition last September, and the TV show features the top 16 schools in a single elimination tournament.

Matchwits crowns Grand Junction champions, next season applications due in May

Carlos and Steve have been "playing along" with the students on Colorado's high school quiz show "Matchwits" this season.  Congratulations to Grand Junction High School, this season's champions. Rocky Mountain PBS show producer Scott Jones joined "First Take with Lando and Chavis" with a recap and look ahead at next season's show.  (Listen for Scott's jazz trivia question.  No surprise: Carlos - 1, Steve - 0.)

Matchwits host Craig Eliot: kids are smarter

Carlos and Steve took a morning off from our usual Tuesday, 6:35 a.m. brain starter quiz questions by interviewing Craig Eliot, host of Colorado's statewide high school TV game show, "Matchwits" (Sundays, 6:30 p.m. on Rocky Mountain PBS).

"Their timing is unbelievable," notes Eliot.  Contestants have five seconds from the instant they fire the buzzer to answer the question or lose points.  "Yes,  they are intimidating.  The crew and I look at each other and wonder, what we were doing  when we were in school?!"
