Award-winning jazz pianist Helen Sung will perform her latest release, Anthem For A New Day, at DazzleJazz September 5 and 6.

Sung will be joined by Reuben Rogers (bass),  Malachi Whitson (drums), and Walter Smith III (tenor saxophone).

An award-winning classical pianist before jazz intervened “in the form of a Tommy Flanagan solo,” Houston, TX, native Helen Sung graduated from the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance and went on to win the Kennedy Center’s Mary Lou Williams Jazz Piano Competition.

With five first-rate albums to her credit, Sung’s newest recording, Anthem For A New Day, is her debut on Concord Records.

An exciting step forward in Sung’s evolution, Anthem displays a modern artistry and music that swings with a funky intellect while seamlessly integrating jazz and classical worlds.

Since establishing herself in New York City, Sung has worked with such luminaries as Clark Terry, Ron Carter, Steve Turre, Wayne Shorter, and MacArthur Fellow Regina Carter.

In addition to leading her own band, Sung can be seen performing with Mingus Big Band & Dynasty Band, T.S.Monk Group, and Terri Lyne Carrington’s Grammy-winning Mosaic Project.

A bright future is certainly in store for this exciting artist whom Wynton Marsalis named as one of his ‘Who’s Got Next: Jazz Musicians to Watch!’
