Five Points Jazz Fest: 11 years and counting

In its 11th year, the Five Points has kept alive a decades old tradition of swinging, live jazz music in this historic neighborhood.  Niecie Washington organizes this weekend's event (May 17, 2014) on behalf of Denver Arts & Venues.  She visited "First Take with Lando and Chavis" with details of the family event.

Jazz, Wine & Walking Tour of Five Points

The jazz greats played here, ate here, relaxed here.  Jack Kerouac wrote about the area.  Now, the formal name of this neighborhood is the Five Points Historic Cultural District.  That's bureaucratic language for the area once known as "Harlem of the West."  The historical markers along Welton Street and its adjacencies are being updated, according to Tracy Winchester (who also directs the Five Points Business District).     The District is hosting a “Jazz, Wine and Walking Tour” on Friday, May 16, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on the eve of the Five Points Jazz Festival.

Early “Bird” Gets the Jazz

Don’t wait until this Saturday to get your weekend into full swing. Five Points Jazz will host the 2nd Annual Jazz on Film as part of this year’s amazing line up for the festival.  A special screening of "Bird" produced and directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Forrest Whitacker, will be shown at the McNichols Building on Thursday, May 15 at 5:30pm. Join KUVO for the film screening, live music from the Tom Tilton Jazz Ensemble, light hors d'oeuvres, and beverages. Tickets are $20.

Five Points Jazz Festival

The Five Points Jazz Festival, now in its 11th year, brings people together for a day of food, fun and fantastic music. The free festival takes place the third Saturday of May each year and celebrates the history of Denver’s Five Points neighborhood. Once known as the Harlem of the West, Five Points was home to several jazz clubs which played host to many of jazz music’s legends such as Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk and many more. Since its inception in 2004, the Five Points Jazz Festival has grown each year in size and popularity.
