Dexter Gordon Tribute on Thursday

Feb 26, 2014

Dexter Gordon was born on this date in 1923: 91 years ago. A bebop pioneer, the tenor sax player was a New York musician in the 40's until he was sidelined by addiction and incarceration. He had several reincarnations and was always recognized as a huge talent when he was available to perform. In 1986, Gordon acted in the Bertrand Tavernier-directed "Round Midnight". Much more on Dexter Gordon is available here. Tune into First Take with Lando and Chavis on Thursday morning for some of Gordon's best!

KUVO's morning show "First Take with Lando and Chavis" has launched a new feature, "Jazz on Film." KUVO music volunteer and educational consultant Matthew Goldwasser, Ph.D. chose French director Bertrand Tavernier's 1986 film "'Round Midnight" as first in the canon.
