Litchfield Jazz Festival

In the 2014 DownBeat “Critics Poll,” singer Cécile McLorin Salvant exploded on the jazz scene. Just a year or so after the release of her first American album, WomanChild on Mack Avenue, the Miami-born singer, who moved to Aix-en-Provence, France in 2007 to study at the Conservatoire Darius Milhaud, emerged not only as the rising-star female vocalist but also as the top overall female vocalist on the scene (and the rising-star jazz artist as well).

All About Jazz

On Saturday night, vocalist Gregory Porter and his signature hat hit the stage at the University of Denver’s Newman Center, 2344 E. Iliff. Since 2010, Porter has exploded on the scene with two early discs on Motéma and several more on Blue Note. Those albums that so well captured the Los Angeles, California-born singer’s deep and engaging voice which also captured two Grammys® for Porter, who surrounds himself with strong players.

Ahmad Jamal is a true jazz master whose music has influenced not only individual musicians (including Miles Davis), but also the evolution of the sound of jazz music itself. His trio was known for its swinging, engaging, and distinctive arrangements of standards, and for its use of space to let the music breathe. In this series, the Dana Landry Trio will bring their personal touch to some of the timeless works from the Ahmad Jamal Trio’s repertoire, with special focus to their groundbreaking album Live At The Pershing which is soon approaching its 60th anniversary.

University of Northern Colorado-Greely

Colorado’s Front Range, from Fort Collins to Colorado Spring is fortunate to have an abundance of marvelous jazz musicians and an amazing array of jazz education programs with highly qualified instructors. One of the brightest spots on the map is the University of Northern Colorado at Greely which boasts an excellent faculty and talented students. Their annual jazz festival brings some of the most prestigious names of jazz to conduct workshops and play alongside the students and faculty musicians.
