Chick Corea

Happy Video Network

It sounds like the musical lineup for a major jazz festival: the Herbie Hancock group, Chick Corea’s Elektric Band, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Bobby Watson’s All-Star Quartet and Kansas City Jump Band and Eliane Elias. Well, there is no festival in Denver this week, but all of these players are on tap here over the coming seven days.

All About Jazz

Manuel Valera came to the USA  from Cuba as a saxophonist. But once in the US, Valera turned to the piano full time as a student at New York University. Beginning with his debut release in 2004, Forma Nueva, Valera established an attractive blend of Latin styles and post-bop jazz in his music with several different bands. At Dazzle on Thursday, he is in town with one of them – a trio that has Hans Glawischnig on bass and E.J. Strickland on drums.

Vinyl Vault: Chick Corea | "Again and Again"

Apr 10, 2017

What’s this? A Chick Corea album that KUVO doesn’t have? Yes, it’s true. But the Vinyl Vault has a copy of “Again and Again (The Joburg Sessions)” and we’ll hear some of it this Tuesday, April 11 - 8:30pm. The album, on the Elektra/Musician label, was recorded in 1982 in South Africa and features Steve Kujala on woodwinds, Carlos Benavent on bass, Don Alias on percussion and Tom Brechtlein on drums. There’s some fine playing all around by this quintet. Check out the Vinyl Vault, Tuesday evenings on KUVO/kuvo.org.
