The Daily Camera

Let’s start with a spot that I generally don’t write about, the Be on Key Psychedelic Ripple club. On Thursday and Friday, the club on Logan at 17th St. offers the first U.S. performance since 2011 from the band Garaj Mahal (303-861-7070). As its name indicates, Garaj Mahal is a jazz fusion group that brings together touches of rock, funk and Indian music with guitarist Fareed Haque, German-born bassist Kai Eckhardt, drummer Sean Rickman and keyboardist Eric Levy.

Local Musician Spotlight: Bob Montgomery

Jun 20, 2017

Bob Montgomery is yet another example of an international talent who has settled in Colorado by choice to enjoy the great local musicianship we all appreciate here in Denver.

Bob has appeared throughout Europe, Australia, Canada, China, Mexico, Japan, Great Britain, New Zealand and the United States.

Sometimes even the most delicious entree can be improved by adding another ingredient. For years the Montgomery-Hermann ensemble has been entertaining audiences along the Front Range as well as in other destinations around the world, their On the Brink recording was well received and garnered numerous spins both here in Colorado and nationally.

We close out another  April Jazz Appreciation Month by featuring a project by 6 of the Front Range's finest musicians, it's The Montgomery Herman Quinlan Sextet's Hear, Here on Summit Records. In addition to the front line of horns, Bob-trumpet, Al-trombone, and Josh-sax, you'll hear Dave Hanson-piano, Ken Walker-bass, and Todd Reid, a most formidable rhythm section.
