Prior to becoming the most recognizable face on earth, Cassius Clay became Muhammad Ali and found himself in the crosshairs of conflicts concerning race, religion, and wartime dissent. 'Trials' zeroes in on the most controversial years of Ali's life, when an emerging sports superhero chooses faith and conscience over fame and fortune.

Michael Milligan's one-man play "Mercy Killers"

Broadway actor Michael Milligan is touring the country with his one-man play "Mercy Killers," the saga of "Joe," a blue collar business owner whose uninsured wife is diagnosed with cancer.   This American tale is intense, and the Colorado tour (through March 14th)  is sponsored by the Health Care for All Colorado Foundation.

Tomorrow in the Battle: Bows review

"Tomorrow in the Battle" is set in London, and KUVO drama critic Bob Bows calls the Kieron Barry play "a riveting mix of compelling drama and sublime lyricism."

The production stars Rachel Fowler, Bill Hahn and Gabra Zackman, through March 7 at the Grant-Humphries Mansion, an extremely intimate setting.  Proceeds benefit History Colorado.

Paul Robeson Goes on Singing: Aurora debut on stage

Paul Robeson. Artist, scholar, lawyer, linguist, humanist, revolutionary, Phi Beta Kappa, All-American - Rutgers Univ. 1919.  All that and more are played out on stage this weekend and next in the Aurora debut production of "I Go On Singing - Paul Robeson's Life in His Words & Songs," starring Anthony Brown.

Brown visited First Take with his impressions of the life and legacy of Paul Robeson, Brown says, "spoke up for, and identified with the common man."
