This show is a musical celebration of Andy Skellenger’s 41st birthday. Known as a virtuosic and versatile percussionist in many of Denver’s top world music and fusion ensembles, Andy has invited 7 of his favorite collaborators for a unique, never to be repeated night of music. This performance will feature diverse instrumentation and styles from around the world with a heavy emphasis on the complex rhythms and sumptuous melodies of Indian Classical Music. Kortet is the name of Skellenger’s new project centered around his playing of the West African harp-like instrument called the kora. Their debut album “Cymatics” was released earlier this year and has gotten regular airplay on KUVO and TAVN. Kortet = Kora + Tet , meaning it’s partly about the kora, but mostly about the “tet”, the spirit of collaboration.
