Billy Childs, with his quartet on JazzSet

On Saturdays KUVO features several music programs from NPR. Tune in and listen over the airwaves, or you have a second opportunity to hear each of these, by listening on-line.

8am Riverwalk Jazz   Deuce Ambience: The Jazz Guitar of Marty Grosz and Howard Alden
The guitar. Portable, popular, and sheer magic in the right hands — like those of Lonnie Johnson or Eddie Lang, Carl Kress or Django Reinhardt. The Jim Cullum Jazz Band welcomes Marty Grosz and Howard Alden to talk jazz guitar and the legendary players who made magic with the instrument. Also airs on KUVO's HD2 channel at 4pm.

10pm Jazzset   Billy Childs Quartet
Recorded live at The Blue Whale in Los Angeles, the Grammy-winning pianist and his quartet make psychic connections to Freddie Hubbard via "Bolivia." Reedman Bob Sheppard pulls four times his weight, performing on soprano, alto and tenor saxes, as well as playing flute in "Quiet Girl." Also airs on KUVO's HD2 channel at 2pm.

11pm Jazz from Lincoln Center The Music of Gillespie and Puente
The vibrant sound of Latin jazz is rooted in the musical heritage of Dizzy Gillespie and ‘The Mambo King’ Tito Puente. Bassist Carlos Henriquez leads the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with conguero Giovanni Hidalgo and drummer Ignacio Berroa. Selections include ‘Manteca,’ ‘Ran Kan Kan,’ ‘Oye Como Va’ and more. Wendell Pierce hosts. Also airs on KUVO's HD2 channel at 2pm.
