Recorded in 1979 during Dr. John’s revival period and only months before his death, Professor Longhair’s Crawfish Fiesta features a tight band with three horns and Dr. John as guest guitarist.

Recorded at the Sea Saint Studios in New Orleans, Crawfish Fiesta won the first W. C. Handy Blues Album of the Year award in 1980.

Dr. John – born Malcolm John “Mac” Rebennack – was an iconic American singer, songwriter, pianist and guitarist whose unique music combined several genres, including blues, pop, jazz, boogie woogie and rock and roll.

Henry Roeland “Roy” Byrd – also known as Professor Longhair – was a New Orleans singer and pianist renowned for his contributions to rhythm and blues as well as the resurgence of traditional jazz in the 70’s.
