Dazzle Jazz is pleased to welcome Monty back for another night of what promises to be amazing performances. Don’t miss out on Tuesday, November 22 at 6 and 8pm. The trio features: Monty Alexander – piano, Hassan Shakur – bass and Obed Calvaire – drums.

Monty Alexander stopped by KUVO to chat with Arturo Gómez on Lunchtime at the Oasis.Monty and Arturo talk about improvisation, his new project on the roots of Thelonious Monk music, his love for black cowboys in the Old West, and how Satchmo inspired him.

In a career spanning five decades, pianist Monty Alexander has built a reputation for exploring and bridging the worlds of American jazz, popular song and the music of his native Jamaica, finding in each a sincere spirit of musical expression. Monty has performed and recorded with a wide array of renowned artists such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ray Brown, Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, Clark Terry, Quincy Jones, Ernest Ranglin, Bill Cosby, Natalie Cole, Bobby McFerrin, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare and others. As a leader, Monty Alexander has recorded over 60 albums to date, and has reinterpreted the music of a diverse collection of his favorite artists including Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett and Bob Marley. Monty’s “Harlem Kingston Express” features both a jazz rhythm section and a Jamaican reggae flavored rhythm section. Sometimes, the two-bands-in-one play together, other times they alternate seamlessly, as the eclectic music demands.
