Job Corps: year-round career training for youth
Job Corps is more than the summer job for teenagers. "It's about careers," D'Ambrose Finch told "First Take with Lando and Chavis" hosts Steve Chavis and George Peck. Finch visited KUVO to recruit more applicants.
Finch, an admissions counselor, told KUVO, "We have all kinds of trades, from construction - electrical, carpentry, welding - all the way to health care." The no-cost residential, educational and vocational training program for 16 to 24 year olds holds orientations every Tuesday and Thursday morning.
The successful job search begins with confidence, says Finch. "The confidence comes with the skills and talents to do the job. That's what we focus on - giving them the training so they can have that confidence."
The Colorado / Wyoming Project Office of Job Corps is at 924 West Colfax Ave. (at Speer in the Hispanic Cultural Center), Denver, 80204. D'Ambrose Finch can be reached directly by e-mail at Finch.DAmbrose@jobcorps.org or cell 720-445-0628.
