Denver Union Station is hosting a free celebration in honor of Billie Holiday’s 100th birthday on April 11 from 4 to 6 pm MT.

Local jazz vocalist and KUVO host Venus Cruz will perform a centennial tribute alongside some of Denver’s greatest jazz artists to commemorate Holiday’s impact on the local jazz scene and American jazz culture at large.

Referred to as the “Harlem of the West,” Denver’s Five Points neighborhood was one of the major hubs for jazz greats during the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. Along with many other prominent jazz artists of her era, Holiday performed at The Rossonian Hotel, a jazz club nestled in the heart of the Five Points community.

This free celebration will take place in Denver Union Station’s Great Hall. To learn more, click here.

And tune in April 11 from 11 pm to midnight MT to keep the celebration going with Jazz Night in America’s tribute to Holiday featuring Cassandra Wilson’s live performance of the classics sung by “Lady Day” herself.
