interview with Julie Speer, clip from “Colorado Experience: Justicia y Libertad”

A new public television documentary brings Colorado’s Chicano movement up to date.  Julie Speer from Rocky Mountain PBS visited “First Take with Lando and Chavis” to discuss the project, “Colorado Experience: Justicia y Libertad,” which airs Thursday, Dec. 18, at 7:00 p.m. (MST).  Check local listings.

“What was the legacy, and how did it carry on through the seventies, eighties, nineties and through today,” said Speer about a more contemporary film than typical for the Colorado Experience series.  ”We’re looking at the last 40 years.”

The audio clip in the interview above describes the largest demonstration in Colorado history, the 2006 immigration rally at the State Capitol.

Music on this feature is by El Chicano, “Viva Tirado.”  Host of KUVO’s “La Raza Rocks” (Sundays, 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.) “Pocho Joe” also coordinated music for the documentary.
