Cleo Parker Robinson takes to the stage herself this weekend (and next) in her company's 4th annual winter production "Cleo on Cleo." Seasoned members of the company will dance newly choreographed pieces, and the youngest dancers will re-interpret her repertory works.
"I'll be dancing 'Motherless Child' with (singers) Arthur Jones and LaTanya Hutchins from the Spirituals Project ," exclaimed Denver's world famous dance diva. "There are a lot of men dancing too, and I love that." A new piece will honor Nelson Mandela, including music from John Coltrane and Art Blakey.
Performances are Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 22 and 23 at the Historic Shorter Building (20th & Washington) and Feb. 28 and Mar. 1 at the Lakewood Cultural Center. Details at www.cleoparkerdance.org.
Music on this feature from Kurt Elling, "They Say It's Wonderful," from the CD Dedicated to You, and Maceo Parker, "The Way You Look Tonight," from the CD Southern Exposure.
