Byron Stripling on Miles Davis' "So What"

Aug 30, 2013

This week, KUVO's music education feature "Stories of Standards" covers arguably the most important song in jazz history, Miles Davis' "So What," track one on the 1959 LP Kind of Blue.  For some added perspective, we caught up with trumpeter Byron Stripling at the 2013 Vail Jazz Festival, where he presented a multi-media tribute to Miles Davis. Stripling considers Miles Davis his hero, for musical and other reasons, and also discusses the legacy of the song "So What."

(Music on this feature includes the finale of the 2013 Vail Jazz Festival gospel jam session, featuring the horns of Wycliffe Gordon, Jeff Clayton and Byron Stripling, and Byron Stripling's "I Want to Be Happy" from the CD Stripling Now!)
