On January 6, 2014,Yolanda Ortega will be celebrating her one year anniversary as an on-air host for Cancion Mexicana on Sunday mornings. Yolanda has a passion for traditional Mexican music as well as the current Latino favorites, admitting her preference for Tejano music. No wonder…her family still lives in San Antonio!
Yolanda has been an actor, director, and musician with Su Teatro, a Chicano theater company based in Denver, for 40 years. Along with fellow performer and co-host of Cancion Mexicana, Debra Gallegos, she produced a CD featuring their favorite songs called “Two Hearts, One Voice.”
Since her retirement from Metropolitan State University of Denver as Vice President of Student Affairs, Yolanda has remained active in the community and at MSU. She currently works part-time as a special events programmer for Clínica Tepeyac. She serves on the Board of Directors for Escuela Tlatelolco, a Latino Montessori K – 12 private school. Yolanda is the Governor’s appointee to the Auraria Higher Education Center Board of Directors and she also serves on the Denver Mayor’s Commisson on Cultural Affairs and the Denver Latino Commission.
