Salsa Con Jazz

Salsa Con Jazz has been part of KUVO for its entire history.

Though the show has been renamed several times, it has always been hosted by Latin Jazz aficionados providing salsa, mambo, cha cha chá and more!

Host Janine Santana plays the best Latin jazz, mambo, new releases, and roots music, as well as traditional and contemporary salsa.

Tune in to hear it all from Machito to Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri to Fania All-Stars, from the Spanish Harlem Orchestra to the Afro-Cuban All-Sras and beyond, all for your listening and dancing pleasure!

La Nueva Voz's Jack Mudry will host a special edition of Salsa Con Jazz showcasing a wide variety of Colombian salsa and folkloric music on November 1 from 4 to 6 PM.

Jack will be joined by a special guest host - his wife, Sylvia Mudry. Sylvia is a native of Colombia with an extensive collection of Colombian music rarely broadcasted.

Don't miss this amazing tribute to Colombian music!

Born on April 20, 1923 in New York City, Tito Puente - also known as “El Rey” and "The King"-  was a pioneering force in music. Renown for fusing styles, Puente added an irresistible big-band spin to traditional Afro-Caribbean music.

In 1948, Puente formed the Tito Puente Orchestra. He is quoted in The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Music saying, "We play jazz with the Latin touch, that's all, you know."

By the end of his lengthy career, Puente was considered a legend in both Latin music and jazz.
