Coolest summer school ever: CCJA's Latin Jazz workshop
"We always start the class with a Latin percussion workshop," explained Trujillo (who plays reeds primarily). "It's required for the horn players, and the bass and piano players in Latin music are considered percussionists, too." In this interview, Trujillo also explains "the clave" rhythm that in central to Latin Jazz, and he demonstrates a few rhythms as well. This summer's Latin Jazz Ensemble plays a recital as the opening act for the Summer Jazz Series on Saturday, July 12, 2o14, 7:00 p.m. at Crossroads Theater, 2590 Washington St., Denver, 80205 (right at Five Points).
