Music Director and Host of Lunchtime at the Oasis

Arturo has been part of "The Oasis in the City" since the spring of 2003. Before that, he was part of Miami's jazz station for 13 years. Arturo was fortunate to have been raised listening to the progressive radio stations of Los Angeles, instilling in him a love and knowledge of many music styles while his parents hosted many Cuban music dance parties at home. Arturo is an award-winning Music Director: he's been awarded the Music Director of the Year honors for 3 consecutive years while at KUVO/KVJZ and once before in Miami. Arturo brings an enthusiastic and passionate approach to his music programs, coupled with pertinent information in the traditions of classic jazz radio. Arturo proudly states, "Jazz is my favorite 4-letter word and the world's greatest art form".

Herb Jeffries Dead: Jazz Singer And Actor Known As 'The Bronze Buckaroo' Dies At 100 Here in Denver, "The Bronze Buckaroo" has a star on the Walk of Fame along the entrance walk at The Black American West Museum and Heritage Center.  Herb Jeffries  was born in Detroit to a racially mixed couple, referring to himself in a 2004 interview with The Oklahoman as "an Italian-looking mongrel with a percentage of Ethiopian blood, which enabled me to get work with Black orchestras."  He sang with the Earl "Fatha" Hines  and Duke Ellingto

We close out New Music Monday for Jazz Appreciation Month-2014 with the debut of the veteran trumpeter and educator’s newest, Ray Vega Quartet’s “Chapter Two”, an exciting  mainstream bop jazz recording.  Ray is a veteran of the Mongo Santamaria and Tito Puente groups and is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Vermont.
