Music Director & Lunchtime at the Oasis Host

Arturo has been part of "The Oasis in the City" since the spring of 2003. Before that, Arturo was part of Miami's jazz station for 13 years.

Arturo was fortunate to have been raised listening to the progressive radio stations of Los Angeles, instilling in him a love and knowledge of many music styles while his parents hosted many a Cuban music dance party during his growing up years.

An award-winning Music Director, Arturo was awarded Music Director of the Year for three consecutive years while at KUVO/KVJZ and once before in Miami.

Arturo brings an enthusiastic and passionate approach to music programs, coupled with pertinent information in the traditions of classic jazz radio. Arturo proudly states, "Jazz is my favorite four-letter word and the world's greatest art form."

Blue Note Records

Few cities have produced as many jazz greats as Detroit and its surrounding suburbs, in fact beyond jazz,  the Motor City  has always been fertile ground for producing numerous gifted and influential musicians in a wide array of music categories. Blue Note Records releases a new compilation CD in tribute to Motown; Detroit Jazz City. The recording features 9 selections from different artists that hail from Detroit.

The bassist, Carlos Henriquez has been a member of the prestigious Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra under the direction of Wynton Marsalis since 1998, he joined them shortly after graduating from the renowned Fiorello H.LaGuardia High School of Music & Arts and Performing Arts whose list of distinguished alumni is as long as its name.

AlFi Records

We usher in Autumn's first New Music Monday edition  with trumpets galore. One of the world's best trumpet players is Arturo Sandoval who releases his first CD for AlFi Records with a performance recorded Live at Yoshi's.  Sandoval is a multi-instrumentalist and as expected not only blows a mean trumpet, he plays plays piano, timbales and does some formidable scatting to boot.

Dee Dee Bridgewater’s amazing résumé is a testimony to her talent and joie de vivre. Much more than just one of the greatest vocalists of all-time, Ms. Bridgewater has been awarded a Tony® for Best Featured Actress in the musical, The Wiz, and was nominated for the UK equivalent, the Laurence Olivier Award.

Since 1999, Bridgewater has served as the Ambassador to the U.N.’s Food and Agriculture Organization.
