At 8:30pm, during his weekly feature, "The Vinyl Vault,"  - Geoff shares a record from his collection that isn't in the KUVO library.

Vinyl Vault Feature

Sep 27, 2016

Check out the Vinyl Vault, TONIGHT! Tuesday 9/27 at 8:30 on the Night Beat with Geoff Anderson on KUVO/KVJZ/kuvo.org.

This week’s Vinyl Vault feature is a 1982 album from Michel Legrand, “After the Rain.” Released on the Pablo Today label, the album features an all-star cast including Stan Getz, Phil Woods, Ron Carter, Grady Tate, Joe Wilder and Gene Bertoncini. Now 84, Legrand has been known for his film scores, but he has regularly played jazz with many of the greats.

This week’s Vinyl Vault features a 1979 album by guitarist Robben Ford, “The Inside Story.” Ford was a veteran of both blues and fusion bands by the time he recorded this and the music draws heavily from both genres. As a teenager, he played in the straight ahead blues band, The Charles Ford Band with his brothers.

This week on the Vinyl Vault we’ll hear some world music from the band Do’a. The Vault will feature tunes from Do’a’s first and third albums, 1978’s “Light Upon Light” and 1981’s “Ancient Future” both on the Vermont label “Philo.”

Do’a was the brainchild of guitarist Randy Armstrong and flute player Ken LaRoche although their instrumentation goes far beyond those two instruments to include sitar, tabla, recorder, African cowbells, Cameroonian shakers, Mandile wood drums, kalimba, Indian bansri flute, roto-toms, Japanese biwa, Tibetan ting-shaw and many more.
