Coolest summer school ever: CCJA's Latin Jazz workshop

This summer on Wednesday nights at KUVO's Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio,  the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts has been instructing students ages 7 through 18 in  the fine points of Latin Jazz.  Instructor Eric Trujillo visited "First Take with Lando and Chavis" to describe what it takes to teach Latin Jazz to young musicians.

Mile High Afro-Cuban with the Kent Denver Azucartones

This month on the High School Collegiate series we air a pre-recorded program from the very near past: We're proud to present a broadcast with a Latin Jazz group from the Kent Denver School, the Azucartones , under the direction of Stephen Holley.  These young players recently absorbed the authentic sounds of Old Havana while studying in Cuba, and know their way around hot Caribbean rhythms.  Tune in and witness for yourself with your host Geoff Anderson this Tuesday, July 8th at 7:00 PM.

Arturo O’Farrill’s Big Band releases a tribute of international rhythms in “The Offense of the Drum”. The vocalist Caterina Zapponi alias Mrs. Monty Alexander has new recording for 2014, “Romantica” featuring hubby Monty on piano along with other all-stars. Austin based saxophonist Elias Haslanger & Church on Monday return with “Live at the Gallery” with Dr. James Polk on the B-3
