Book Review: Herbie Hancock - In the Moment

In this book, Possibilities, by Herbie Hancock, the words seem to flow as the author’s music career has evolved—smoothly and naturally. Herbie’s musical talent was apparent at age eleven, when he won a contest right to perform with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. An early aptitude for understanding technical material and analysis, plus joy in taking things apart, foretold a career in engineering. His practical parents used an uncle’s South Chicago address in the Hyde Park High School district to qualify him a place at a desired school. His classes were easy.

XicanIndie Film Fest | April 9-12

Salvadoran hip-hop group RDBM, featured in the XicanIndie Film Festival feature Words of Revolution.

XicanIndie Film Fest XVII, a four day film festival showcasing the best in Chicano independent films and Latino World Cinema, will take place at Su Teatro Performing and Cultural Arts Center April 9 to 12.

Besides five headliner film screenings and nine other films/shorts, the festival will feature several parties and panels with visiting filmmakers.

The 1943 film "Stormy Weather" is a big Hollywood musical with an all-black cast featuring many of the top entertainers of the day. It is also a snapshot into the state of Black America both inside Hollywood and in the United States. That makes this a little bit of a schizophrenic film to review.
