Benny Golson - this week

On Thursday, April 24 when NEA Jazz Master, saxophonist, and composer Benny Golson appears at the Mount Vernon Country Club. The 85 years young musician has made major contributions to jazz over the years including the compositions, Killer Joe, I Remember Clifford, Along Came Betty, Stablemates, Whisper Not and Blues March.

Björn Thoroddsen at KUVO

On Friday, April 18 at 4pm, Icelandic guitarist Björn Thoroddsen performs live on KUVO. Thoroddsen is one of Iceland's leading jazz guitarists and has released a number of critically acclaimed albums. He has won several Icelandic music awards, including "Jazz Performer of the Year" in 2003. 
Bjorn's interest in guitars and music developed from an early age. On completing his training in Iceland he continued his studies in Los Angeles where he graduated from the Guitar Institute of Technology.

Musical Highlights from Dr. Provizer

Jose Madera, special guest at the Metro State Jazz Celebration

            This year’s annual Metro State Jazz Celebration has percussionist Jose Madera as its special guest. For many years, the New York-born Madera helped propel the Tito Puente Orchestra, along with serving as the band’s music director. After that long run, Madera spent the first decade of the 2000s with the Latin Giants of Jazz. And more recently, he is has been a member of the Mambo Legends Orchestra made up of many of the players who worked with Puente.
