February is still a month short on days. But this time around, it’s also a month very long on music. On Saturday, that amazing month of music gets going when drummer Kenwood Dennard joins forces with saxophonist Joe Anderies at Dazzle, 930 Lincoln, at 7 and 9 p.m.

In 1976, tenor saxophonist Dewey Redman, trumpeter Don Cherry, bassist Charlie Haden, and drummer Ed Blackwell joined forces to form the group Old and New Dreams.

This past week in music was something truly special. First, the city took another big-league step when Dazzle brought in the great drummer Brian Blade and his superb Fellowship Band for six shows over four nights. Traditionally, Denver is the kind of town where big national acts visit for a couple of nights. To make the jump to a four-night, largely sold-out stand is something to celebrate.

The Pelican state should be on everyone’s mind this week with both drummer Brian Blade and pianist Ellis Marsalis in town. The only thing missing from this special Louisiana treat is the crawfish.
