Riverwalk Jazz - Feelin' the Spirit: The Luis Russell Story The Jim Cullum Jazz Band returns to San Antonio’s Pearl Stable with their friend Dick Hyman, and welcomes world-renowned vocalist Catherine Russell, daughter of Luis Russell whose early recordings are considered some of the first and best examples of swing music. 8am on KUVO or 1pm on HD2
JazzSet - Two Skirts and a Shirt Rene Marie, Allan Harris and Carla Cook are in sweet harmony with a message in this concert from the KC Jazz Club in Washington, D.C. This is only the second performance ever by the group, though you'd never know it. Extraordinary back-up comes from a trio of Denver's finest musicians: Eric Gunnison on piano, Mark Simon on bass and Paul Romaine on drums. 4pm on HD2 or 10pm on KUVO
Jazz from Lincoln Center - Abyssinian Mass Wynton Marsalis was commissioned in 2008 by the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem to write a piece celebrating their bicentennial. Though it premiered earlier, the work has been developing with each performance. This incarnation of Marsalis’ opus unites musical traditions from across centuries and continents, to celebrate life, humanity, and love. The 70 member Chorale de Chateau, conducted by Damien Sneed, joins the Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra, Wynton Marsalis’ conducts “The Abyssinian Mass”. Wendell Pierce hosts. 2pm on HD2 or 11pm on KUVO
