For a very small country, Israel, in recent decades, has produced a pretty amazing list of jazz players who have gained attention in the land where jazz was born. One of the most formidable of those players is Anat Cohen who appears at Dazzle, 930 Lincoln, on Thursday and Friday with her quartet. Not all that long ago, Cohen was a rising star on clarinet and soprano saxophone. Today she is much more than that.

Eats & Beats: Inventing Room wins reality show!

The CNBC television show “Restaurant Startup” aired its finale last night.  Congrats to local gastronomic experimentalists Ian Kleinman and Mike Coberlain of The Inventing Room based in Edgewater, Colo.  Kleinman visited "First Take with Lando and Chavis" to describe the experience.

Eats & Beats: Food Security Unpacked

Among the keynote speakers at the 3rd annual Local Food Summit in Denver was Malik Yakini, from the Detroit Black Food Security Network.  (Detroit is considered by many to be a forerunner in the modern urban gardening movement.)  Yakini gave the "First Take with Lando and Chavis" audience a deeper understanding of the term "food desert."

Accolades keep rolling in for one of the new, smaller eateries.  Chef Kelly Whitaker of Cart-Driver (and Boulder's Basta) sat down with Steve Chavis and Arturo Gomez to show off some of his simple culinary magic for the Wednesday food feature on the KUVO morning show, called "Eats and Beats."

"Our menu is divided into two places: pizza and etcetera.  Your oyster, your toast program, your mortadella hotdog, and gelato - everything else fits in that last category.  Our menu's pretty short and sweet."
