(Pianist Bobby Greene and bassist D Minor play The Mercury Café on Fridays at 9:30 p.m.)
The following is an excerpt from a lengthy interview I conducted with Bobby Greene on May 16, 2014. In this excerpt I focus on the struggle in a student’s life, when the young musician determines that a career in music is possible.
Throughout May we have more great performances coming up in the Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio. Tuesday's at 8:30, Geoff Anderson presents the Vinyl Vault. Tonight, we’ll hear some tracks from their second album overall and their first album on Atlantic Records from the Manhattan Transfer. Released in 1975, it has a great swinging version of “Tuxedo Junction,” a sultry “Java Jive” and more.
Check out how the Transfers sounded back at the beginning, tonight at 8:30 on the Vinyl Vault on KUVO.
