Weekday mornings from 6 to 9am, Carlos Lando and Steve Chavis bring you Community, Culture and Music on First Take with Lando and Chavis. A blend of music, news and community-oriented programming, tuning in to First Take is the right way to start your day. Lando's "Stories of Standards" feature examines a jazz standard or a tune from the Great American Songbook each week. Stories of composers, lyricists, performers, and songs. On Wednesdays, Steve hosts Eats and Beats, a segment related to food, restaurants, chefs and all things gastronomic. Tune in!

El Sistema: Passion for Music with Young Students

Kyle Etges and El Sistema are looking to empower children through music education. 

    

 

From humble beginnings in a parking garage in Venezuela, El Sistema has grown into a world wide phenomena transforming the lives of at-risk youth by introducing and fostering a life-long love for music. 

 

"El Sistema's core philosophy is passion for music," Etges said, "and when you teach that first, there's really no limit to what the kids can learn."
