New Music Monday: Last Call for January

We close out January with a diverse line up of new releases for your listening delight.

First up is the posthumous released CD by one of the all time great jazz flutists, Sam Most who passed away about 18 months ago.  Mr. Most's New Jazz Standards on Summit Records s a collection of a dozen tunes all written by the noted trumpeter Carl Saunders. In addition to flute, Sam is heard on clarinet, baritone sax and he throws in some scatting as well.

Eats & Beats: A Ramen Rescue

A new study reported at WebMD.com says America's youth may be eating too much pizza (or just not the right kind of pizza).  So what's a college student to do?!  Ramen noodles to rescue, say KUVO interns Cindy Howard and Ryan Mecillas.

It's about the things you add, says Howard (CU-Boulder).  "When we're using the regular ramen noodles we will add some basil, some chicken, some vegetables, carrots, sprouts. We'll make it like a pho" (the Vietnamese noodle dish).

Jambalaya Youth Xplosion Brings Down the House

Codaryl Cody Moffett's Jambalaya Youth Xplosion brought the house down during their January 17 performance at Dazzle Jazz.

Some of Denver's finest young musicians - including saxophonist Rico Jones, pianist Euanha So, vibraphonist Rocco Williams, guitarist Alex Heffron and bassist Wilson Luallen - delivered an outstanding performance rivaling that of established musicians.
